Hola! I’m Ruby, the CEO of Ruby Creative Co., who has a passionate heart for helping all clients, whether you’re an aspiring entrepreneur or non-for-profit organization, to achieve their marketing goals.
The Core of Her Passion
Ruby Herrera is a Graphic Designer with over 6+ years of experience designing exceptional print, graphic and digital designs in a marketing environment since her college days.
Ruby is a first-generation Mexican-American. Growing up, she felt the need to help her community by searching for solutions that grew her interests. In high school, Ruby became fascinated with computers and art, and it had always been her strong suit in school. Ever since then, she decided she wanted to become a Graphic Designer.
Having primary education in computer and graphic design during high school, she got hired on her first job on YWCA Lake County as Women's Economic Advancement Coordinator. These were her job responsibilities:
Working under Lila Jimenez, former Director of Education of YWCA Lake County, opened her eyes to the importance of education to younger generations. Her advocacy ignited Ruby's ambition of helping her fellow Latino/Latinas thru designing content for their projects. And this perhaps motivated Ruby to open up her then side hustle, Ruby Creative Co., a creative digital agency based in Chicago, IL
"As a woman in the arts and technology industry, my goal is to continue growing within my community and networking with like-minded individuals who share a vision to enhance their community in education, technology, and art." - Ruby Herrera
Professional Background
Ruby took BFA in Graphic Design from the Illinois Institute of Art – Schaumburg in 2014. Her whole experience in college taught her how to work on various products and activities, such as advertising, community events, posters, product packaging, logos and displays, corporate communications, and corporate identity. (i.e. giving organizations a visual ‘brand'.)
Her Working Ethics
Starting her business with many competitors along the way must have been challenging. Still, because of her two first clients who trusted her and saw her work, word eventually got out, and her previous clients kept referring her to new ones. She always reassures her clients, “Your project is treated as if it were my own.” And it's evident up to this day because she has over 15 clients already! YAY!
If you may ask her if she also did a corporate job, then the answer is YES! Ruby is always hungry for growth and knowledge. She's always been thankful to her current bosses, colleagues, mentors for generously sharing their experiences with her.
Her Clients
Her advocacy grew fondly for her community. She continuously volunteers and collaborates with not-for-profit organizations like The Miracle Center, The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture, NLEI 2019 Annual Gala, etc.
She also loves to #supportlatinabusiness like Bianca Cerrato (owner of Libritos for the Heart), Rocio Dorado (owner of La Jefecita), Jasmine Del Toro (owner of The Madre Diaries), etc.
Who is Ruby Outside of Work?
In her free time, Ruby loves to travel and take photos of her latest adventures. Her friends describe Ruby as a friendly, loving, and caring person who is always there for everyone. She values authenticity, trust, dignity, value, and seeing the goodness in others.
When she is not working on projects, you will find Ruby volunteering in her community that helps children, youth, and families through the arts.
